We're Number One Minneapolis MN was chosen by Popular Science as the top tech city in the USA.

What made Minneapolis our high-tech champ? It ranked first among U.S. cities in innovative transportation solutions, fourth in energy technology. The city fell above the 50th percentile in every category measured, a broad-based showing of tech savvy that set it apart from the competition. With everything averaged together, there is no city in America where a culture of high technology has a more pervasive presence.

Re: SHA-1 "broken"

Thanks to Sam Ruby for putting it in perspective.

At one hash operation per nanosecond, a collision can be found in less than twenty millennium.[SHA-1 "Broken"]

People have been getting hysterical about this. As Sam points out, this may be something to worry about, but we've got some time yet.

I'm a wealthy miser!

As an experiment, if nothing more, I created an AdSense account last year. Taking a clue from Russell Beattie I only display the ads to people coming here from search engines (I include Yahoo, Google, MSN, etc). Based on what I've earned so far I'll receive my first check for $100 in 19 years. ROTFL.

Late to the party again

Russell Beattie posted last night about a collaboration with Anthony Eden, which resulted in TagSurf. This is very much like something I've been thinking about adding to Roller, if only inertia hadn't gotten to me. :-) Anyway, it looks good, with cool auto-completion (yes, I had that idea too). The tagging phenomenon hasn't quite swept me away yet, but I've been following it, seeing where it develops. P@ makes the connection to Annotea, another technology that I've been thinking about.

I do a lot of thinking, if only I'd get off my lazy ass and do something.

Embedding .Mac looks pretty cool. Mike Clark notes that you can use the DotMac Kit to enjoy all the benefits of the .Mac services, and get a referral bonus to boot.

Are there any analogies in the Java space, a "kit" that connects an application with an existing set of networked services?
