I copied rss.vm from Mark Pilgrim's Movable Type template (with his permission). It is RSS 2.0 which is the most recent version of RSS. I'm not sure why you'd want to support an earlier RSS because all of the aggregators now support RSS 2.0.

Do they? I'm admittedly ignorant of such things. For some reason RSS just fails to capture my attention. I can be remarkably, selectively, Luddite. I still don't use an aggregator (I've tried a couple, haven't found one I like).

Though I haven't made any specific notes, looking at links to view a rss feed of any nature people tend to use 0.92 or 1.0. I'm not sure what the uptake will be on 2.0, ideally people just want to quick generate a rss file with the detail of the channel and the specific items. Why complicate matters.
(Apologies for not responding soon, things have been manic).
